Versace. Armani. Karan. Only a few one-name wonders in the area of fashion style but ones who have created a multitude of fashion trends that are so iconic there isn’t any one in the world who doesn’t recognize their work, even those who claim not to be even remotely interested in vogue.
Fashion is one of the biggest industries in the world these days, not just because people need to have the ability to dress in appropriate outfits but also since it’s considered one of the backbones of our presence. Without fashion, we would have no outlet for our identity, no method to communicate to the world who we are and what we are inside and out.
While both men and women benefit a lot from fashion, there’s no denying that it’s the female race that benefits more. If you’ve ever been to some Fashion Week or avidly follow all the Victoria’s Secret fashion shows, you’ll know why. Women just have a natural inclination towards whatever fancy, frilly and pretty that’s no wonder they’re the ideal inspiration for fashion designers.
And yet, in spite of the fact that women wear fashion layouts beautifully, their presence in the realm of fashion remains distinctly lacking, particularly in the domain of style design which around the current is being dominated mostly by the men. When a γυναίκα says she is working as a fashion designer, people opinion that it makes sense because she loves shoes but when it is a man who says he’s a fashion designer, then they look at him in amazement and abruptly, fashion isn’t any longer frivolous and shallow although crucial and necessary. Go figure.
Well, actually do not. The fact isthat if women work in a market that is chiefly associated with them, people automatically assume you are there for its perks and frivolities but you don’t have what it takes to understand what makes it tick with society, which girls plus fashion somehow substantially lessens the brain cells. Thank God for powerful women CEOs who have demonstrated that wielding power while clad in the latest and most fashionable power suits doesn’t mean that you don’t have brains.
It’s also perhaps because of the fact that men in vogue are a novelty. There has been a time when guys in fashion were thought of being gay or quite confident of themselves and their skills to forego more considerable job opportunities in the normal world. But if you truly consider it, wasn’t it true that there was just one fashion designer that was included in Time 100: The Most Important People in the Century and that it was a female? So really, the fact is female fashion designers will be the novelty rather than the guys.
As far as glamorizing that the area of fashion goes, it was also a girl who began the idea of runway shows. Jeanne Paquin, considered one of the world’s first female couturiers, would frequently organize fashion parades and ship mounted versions to society events such as operas and races. She was also renowned for her eighteenth-century inspired pastel evening dresses that was completely unheard of at the time because day dresses were constantly in dark colours to emphasize formality.
While a male’s perspective is always welcome and refreshing in fashion, nobody really understands the human body, especially a woman’s body better than a girl. They also know what other women want and consequently, would understand what would sell and what wouldn’t. Lastly, who else buys more clothing anyway?
