Victims Have the Right to Know:
Safe Surfin' Applauds Virginia Sheriff's Association SAVIN Program
The Virginia Sheriff's Association
recently made available to the public, SAVIN. SAVIN is the Virginia Statewide
Automated Victim Information and Notification Service.
SAVIN is a free service that will notify you if an offender is in jail and will give you other important custody information. SAVIN will also let you leave a phone number where you want to be called automatically when that offender is released, transferred, or escapes.
If you or a loved one is a victim of a crime and you want the peace of mind
knowing where the offender is, SAVIN should be part of your safety plan.
How it works:
You register with SAVIN and choose a PIN code and enter phone number you wish to be contacted through.
You register the offender's name with SAVIN.
Should the custody status of the
offender change, you will be notified by telephone via the SAVIN system.
Benefits:
The offender will not know you are registered with SAVIN.
If you are not at home, the SAVIN system will leave a message on your machine. If no machine picks up, the system will continue to try and reach you for 24 hours.
The Safe Surfin' Foundation applauds the
Virginia Sheriff's Association for developing this system providing victims
information and notification concerning the activities of their offenders.
